Keep the border option practical
Donegal is the local centre choice in this comparison. Sligo is an optional cross-county alternative, not an automatic recommendation for everyone in the Ballyshannon area. Before widening your search, check whether your instructor can support practice there and whether the test car and journey are manageable for you. This makes the choice about preparation rather than county labels alone.
RSA's Donegal centre finder and Sligo centre finder provide official venue and vehicle-category information. RSA's regional table lists centres in both counties. The selected labels here are Donegal and Sligo; check the options shown with your booking and include only a car-test centre you could use.
When you know which centre choices work, IrishDrivingTests Notify can email you about suitable earlier appointments. You do not have to keep checking by hand while getting ready for a test. For a Donegal-centre search, our Donegal cancellation service gives you a focused starting point.
Compare invitation estimates and alerts
The August 2026 CSO/RSA table includes published invitation-wait estimates for Donegal and Sligo. Those estimates describe the expected wait for an invitation to book; they are not appointment dates. Notify works separately by emailing you when it identifies a suitable earlier appointment.
Set an earliest date that still leaves time to prepare, and decide whether both centres are realistic for your test car and instructor. If you can only attend Donegal, keep your selection focused there. Add Sligo when you are genuinely willing and able to take a test at that venue.
Start with Donegal and Sligo selected, then refine your choices. A Notify email links you to MyRoadSafety to review and claim a suitable appointment. Optional AutoBook is a separate choice for someone with an existing booking and needs their authorisation.
Ballyshannon cancellation questions
Should I include Sligo in my search?
Include it if your instructor, test car and practice arrangements make a test there realistic; otherwise, begin with Donegal alone.
Can Notify send email alerts without a current booking?
Eligible learners can use Notify while waiting for an invitation. AutoBook needs an existing appointment and authorisation.
How do I take up an appointment in an email?
Follow the link to MyRoadSafety, review the venue and date, and complete the booking if it fits your plans.
