Compare the three practical options
Castlemungret is in County Limerick, Nenagh is in Tipperary and Shannon is in Clare. That spread matters more than a simple county match: a learner based in Newport may find one option suits their instructor and test car, while another is difficult to prepare for. Ask whether you can practise around the centre and arrange transport on the day before adding it to your shortlist.
The RSA says applicants may try another centre when no suitable date is available at the chosen location. This does not mean your home county determines the centre or that a different venue will automatically bring an earlier appointment. Check the RSA directory for Tipperary and the listings for Limerick and Clare to confirm centre locations and categories. Use the official place names when selecting centres.
Newport's position near county boundaries makes this a useful point to agree arrangements before changing an application. Ask your instructor which centre they can support, whether suitable practice is possible there and what happens if a short-notice opportunity comes up. If those details are uncertain, adding a distant-sounding alternative may create more pressure rather than a genuinely usable choice.
Check the published figures, then choose alerts
The figure shown by the checker is an estimated wait for an RSA booking invitation, rather than an appointment date. It does not tell you whether a cancellation slot is available now. Read the RSA explanation of waiting times alongside the comparison and choose only locations you could realistically use.
Notify provides email alerts about earlier-test opportunities. Set up alerts for Castlemungret, Nenagh or Shannon. When handling an official application or invitation, follow the RSA's booking guidance.
