The RSA announced that the Galway Westside centre would temporarily move to Clybaun Hotel from 7 April 2025. If you are seeking an earlier test under the Westside label, check your current official appointment details rather than assuming an older address still applies. The dated relocation notice does not replace your 2026 booking confirmation.
Our Westside monitoring page concerns the selected Galway centre. This guide explains how to keep the label, actual venue and car arrangement aligned when searching for a sooner date. A useful alert should lead to an appointment you understand and can attend.
Why you may see two names online
The official February 2025 announcement described a move from the Westside Shopping Centre venue to Clybaun Hotel in Knocknacarra. It was presented as temporary. That helps explain why older articles, search results and conversations may use different location references.
Do not turn the expected duration in an old announcement into a definite current address. Temporary arrangements can change. Read the centre information offered in MyRoadSafety and the venue shown on your actual appointment confirmation.
If those details are unclear or disagree with a message, check with the RSA before travelling or authorising a replacement. This is a venue check, not a reason to panic about your booking. The aim is to use current instructions rather than assumptions.
Keep preparation tied to the real appointment
Tell your instructor which venue your confirmation identifies. Ask what preparation is sensible and which dates they could support with the car. A lesson organised around an older location should not automatically determine the arrangements for a new appointment.
If you use a family vehicle, check its suitability and agree the accompanying driver. Include collecting and returning the car as part of the plan. An earlier date can be attractive while still being impractical on a day when the vehicle is unavailable.
Readiness remains the priority. A valid permit, the required training record and any applicable holding period need to satisfy the RSA requirements. Monitoring does not remove them or promise a particular route on test day.
Choose dates you could accept at that venue
Set the earliest date to the first day you are genuinely prepared and able to attend. Compare it with the booked appointment you want to improve. There needs to be a usable window before the existing test.
Think about work, college and car restrictions. If a changed venue affects how the day will work, settle that before making the dates broad. A notification is easier to use when it matches an arrangement already agreed.
Keep the current booking while searching. The RSA's rescheduling rules consider notice and previous changes, with possible fee consequences. Do not cancel simply because an alert search has begun.
Would Carnmore be a real alternative?
Carnmore monitoring is a separate choice, not another label for the Westside venue. It may be practical if you can prepare and arrange a car there. Discuss those details rather than treating all Galway appointments as interchangeable.
Consider where the car would be supplied and how the whole day would work. The alternative may be useful for one learner and awkward for another. Neither a city label nor a historical waiting figure establishes that it will give you a quicker date.
It is fine to monitor Westside only. The available plans allow several centres, but you do not have to fill the allowance. A smaller list of venues you can use is more relevant than a broad search producing matches you would reject.
Decide how a matching date should be handled
Premium offers email Notify for up to three selected centres. You can read a found opportunity and manage the official change yourself. Use an email address you check and make sure you can access MyRoadSafety without a rushed password reset.
Premium Plus supports up to five centres and optional AutoBook for authorised matching changes. Choose it when the selected venues and dates are already acceptable. The venue uncertainty should be resolved before authorising an automatic change.
See the current one-time price in the selector. This is a monitoring payment, not the RSA test fee or a guarantee of an appointment. A Notify email does not hold a slot while you work out the practical arrangements.
Use the new confirmation after a successful change
Read the replacement's centre, date and time together before acting. Follow the official process and save the confirmation when it succeeds. That confirmation establishes the booking, rather than the fact that an alert was received.
Update your instructor and use the new venue instructions for the day. Do not keep the old address simply because the centre label looks familiar. The better result is a sooner appointment with the right preparation and location, not a date disconnected from those details.
Westside and Clybaun FAQs
Why does Clybaun appear in Westside search results?
The RSA announced a temporary move to Clybaun Hotel from April 2025. Use the current official information and your confirmation to establish your own test venue.
Is the 2025 notice enough to plan a 2026 journey?
No. It is dated context. Check the venue in your current appointment instructions and resolve any uncertainty with the RSA.
Does Westside monitoring include Carnmore?
No. Carnmore is a separate centre selection. Add it only if your car and preparation arrangements support an appointment there.
When should I treat the earlier date as secured?
When the official replacement booking is confirmed. An email alert identifies an opportunity but does not reserve it.
Choose Westside earlier-date monitoring after checking the current venue and your usable dates.
