The short answer

If MyRoadSafety shows no suitable dates, check again during your 10-day invitation window because slots open every day at most test centres. You can also view other practical locations. If the invitation expires, sign in and use Rejoin Queue when you are ready. Eligible learners can also look for limited short-notice appointments.

No dates on one visit does not mean your application is lost. Availability changes, and the right next step depends on whether you have an active booking invitation, are already waiting or are trying to reschedule an appointment.

What an empty calendar does not mean

It does not automatically mean your invitation is invalid, your application has been removed or the test centre has stopped operating. Check the invitation expiry date and the application status shown in MyRoadSafety before taking any action.

It also does not mean a customer-care agent can create an appointment for you. RSA bookings, rescheduling and cancellations are self-managed online. Use official support if the account status itself is wrong, but continue checking MyRoadSafety for ordinary availability.

Take a screenshot of any genuine account error before contacting support, including the date and the page where it appeared.

If you have a booking invitation

The RSA normally gives you 10 days from receipt of the invitation to select an appointment. Its support page for centres with no dates says slots open every day in most test centres, so check again within the window.

Use the location option on the booking page and select See More Locations if another centre is genuinely practical. Ireland does not use the same three-nearest-centres rule as Great Britain, but travel, instructor availability and local preparation still matter.

If the invitation expires

An expired invitation removes you from the active invitation list. Sign in to MyRoadSafety, view the waiting-list application status and select Rejoin Queue.

If you are waiting for an invitation

Use the RSA's waiting-time estimator for an idea of when a car-test invitation may arrive. The date is an estimate rather than a guarantee because demand, tester availability and disruptions can change.

Look at short-notice availability carefully

The RSA makes cancelled short-notice appointments available to eligible learners through MyRoadSafety. Slots are limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis. They cannot be booked by phone or email.

If you are changing a booked test

The RSA's manage your booking guidance says an ordinary appointment more than 10 days away can normally be rescheduled twice without losing the fee. If no suitable alternative is shown, read the cancellation consequences before making a decision.

Do not cancel simply to refresh the list. Check whether the current test can remain in place while you consider the available options.

Prepare before the next date appears

  • Confirm which centres you can realistically attend.
  • Agree an acceptable date range with your instructor.
  • Check your learner permit and EDT records.
  • Keep your MyRoadSafety contact information current.
  • Decide whether you want to act yourself or use AutoBook.
